Fair: Independent, Brussels

Independent, Brussels

with Robert Brambora

8 - 11 November 2018

For Independent Brussels, Sans titre (2016) is proud to present a new body of work by German artist Robert Brambora.

These wooden heads are inspired by MRI images, where the different parts of the brain are revealed in successive layers according to the stimulus they are subjected to. The different works show classical paintings and text collages. Both are meant as representations of the same field of interest: the working conditions and the nature of competition in this society. Furthermore they express a new definition of time, exhaustion and the german « Entgrenzung » (dissolution of boundaries).

The materials used for the collages contain fragments of scientific studies, newspaper articles, excerpts from blogs and the artist own notes. They refer to topics such as the increasing use of neurohancers, studies about cortisol levels during stress and theoretical texts about the economic competition that individuals face in their everyday lives.

Robert Brambora (Halle, 1984) lives and works in Cologne. He completed his masters degree at the Art Academy Dusseldorf after studying at the HGB Leipzig. His recent solo and duo exhibitions include Sans titre (2016), Paris, Kunstverein Weisen, and Salon Kennedy, Frankfurt.
In 2019, he will have a solo show at the Bonner Kunstverein, after being awarded with the Peter Mertes prize. Brambora is the co-founder of Real Positive, an artist run space based in Cologne.
