Wei Libo
Wei Libo (born in 1994 in Lanzhou, China) lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2024, where he studied in the studios of Petrit Halilaj, Alvaro Urbano, and Tatiana Trouvé.
The artist belongs to a generation of young rural Chinese affected by the rapid urbanization of the 1990s. In his work, he captures the tension between tradition and modernity, between memory and reinvention. By mixing natural materials such as wood and ceramic with autobiographical motifs and references to pop culture, he offers an incisive critique of socio-economic upheavals. These transformations redefine identity and cultural heritage, nourishing a reflection on the links between the individual and his environment.
